The "River" Session Log
Session #6: Patient [XXXXXXXX XXXXX]

Psychologist
I want to know more about this river you mentioned, if that is alright.

[XXXXXXXX]
Okay.

Psychologist
Is there any significance to the river appearing while you were in your Dream? Is it something familiar to you?

[XXXXXXXX]
Actually, yes.

Psychologist
Mind talking about it? Could be useful to us.

[XXXXXXXX]
The river is directly from one of my memories as a kid. I was with my dad, and we had been hiking all day to get to the other side of these mountains. My dad had been excited about it for weeks because it was supposed to have an incredible view on the other side.

We were nearing the end, when we encountered this river. It must have rained the night before because the current was much more violent than my dad had anticipated.

There had been a plan B though. This specific trail had a boat anchored to the shore of the river, in case of times like this. It would have been possible to cross though risky.

Psychologist
Did you cross?

[XXXXXXXX]
No. I was too scared. I could tell Dad really wanted to do it. He was really disappointed, I could tell. Though he wouldn't let me see it.

We turned around at that point. All I could think about was drowning in that river, for weeks after. It haunted me.

Psychologist
So this was another traumatic memory for you then. I think we can be in agreement. And in your Dream, it happened differently?

[XXXXXXXX]
Yes. I crossed the river this time. Though not without trouble. At one point I almost drowned. There was so much lightning and rain, I got thrown overboard. And when I was in the water, there were these...things...pulling me down. Deeper. Holding me there.

Psychologist
It sounds like your mind manifested your worst fears possible in the moment. What managed to help you survive?

[XXXXXXXX]
I wanted to see her. I knew she was there. That's what kept me going.

Psychologist
Your mother.

[XXXXXXXX]
Yeah.

Psychologist
Was there anything else about that moment?

[XXXXXXXX]
There was. When I was in my Dream, I wasn't alone. There was someone else with me. My dad.

Psychologist
How is that possible?

[XXXXXXXX]
I don't know. He had been there with me from the beginning. That's why I was so sure that my mom would be at the end of the road there, because my dad was guiding me to her. He felt real too, just like mom.

Psychologist
It could have been your mental projection of your father. While there are elements of this Dream I don't want to challenge you on, you have to see that there are some elements that are purely creations of your mind. Do you understand?

[XXXXXXXX]
I think I do see that. And I understand why you would say that.

Psychologist
Okay good, I think we've made progress today. I feel you're almost done with these sessions.

[XXXXXXXX]
Why do you not have any pictures of Jason in your office?

Psychologist
Well, Jason is very sick. It hurts to think about him healthy at the moment. But I also don't want to keep any current pictures of him for the same, but opposite reason.*

*This could be much more simple in fact. It could just be protocol, to avoid the spread.

Oh I'm so sorry that I asked. I didn't mean to bring up difficult thoughts.

Psychologist
It's alright. If I expect you to be honest with me, than I should be honest with you too. You are always welcome to ask me questions.

See you next week.
